What is hip bursitis?
Hip bursitis (greater trochanteric pain) is irritation around the outside of the hip. It is often related to tendon overload in the gluteal muscles.
Common symptoms
- Pain on the outside of the hip
- Night pain when lying on the side
- Pain with walking or stairs
- Tenderness over the bony point of the hip
Common causes
- Gluteal tendon overload
- Hip and pelvic mechanics
- Sudden increase in activity
- Muscle weakness
